Making Chainweapons

Many thanks to Brother Plasticard for this tutorial.

Chainfists

Have you ever needed multiple chainfists in a squad? Have you ever felt that forking over large sums of money for individual bitz left you feeling somewhat robbed and bittersweet? Sure you have the bitz, but your wallet is missing a few (whatever currency applies to you); kind of like going to a nice restaurant, eating a wonderful meal, and when you ask for the cheque the chef comes, stands on the table and farts in your face*.... Grin

Anyhow, I propose a simple tutorial to make your own chainfists! Please read through the tutorial before attempting it, as it will give you a clearer idea of what you are doing.

Chaos Chainfist:
-1x Chaos Powerfist
-1x Chainsword (does not matter which one, its more of a preference. Use the same bit for consistency)

Loyalist Terminator Chainfist:
-1x Infantry Powerfist was used for the purposes of teaching, however use an actual terminator powerfist
-1x Chainsword (does not matter which one, its more of a preference. Use the same bit for consistency)

Other Supplies:
-GS (Green Stuff, also known as Kneadite - a type of epoxy putty)
-(Optional) Plastic Rod (Plasticard, Styrene, etc.)

Tools:
-Sculpting Tool (I recommend Clay Shapers, and a metal sculpting tool to apply the GS)
-Knife
-Superglue

Preparing

Begin by getting rid of the fourth finger on the powerfist (left image). Make sure it is a clean cut. Also, make sure that the part where the finger use to be looks like the picture on the right.

Take a chainsword (it does not matter what type, it all depends on your preference), and cut the chain part off of from the handle.

Trim the top chains off of the chain sword part, and cut a small rectangle out from that part. The bit should now sort of look like an "L". Make sure the bit fits on the powerfist as shown below (like way below Cool). You can vary the length of the chainsord bit on the powerfist, depending on what length you prefer. Note: The top chainsword bit on the right picture is too small, even if it is the look you want, its just too small. Make sure you have a sizeable blade because...THIS IS 40K! Grin

Take your plastic rod, and cut at a 45 degree angle downwards to create what you see in the left picture. Score around the plastic rod to create the exhaust pipe. Then either bend the plastic rod or cut it along the score. You can bend the rod, and because the rod is scored it will just snap easily and cleanly.

Assembling

Now glue the bit on where the fourth finger was. You want the blade to face the bottom of the powerfist (else your marine will have some troubles...). The third finger goes where you cut the rectangle out of the blade (right picture).

It is very, very important that the chainsword bit does not follow the curve of the fingers, and stays straight in relation to the powerfist part without the fingers (wording?).

Note: Even though the bit is joined by superglue (or whatever glue you are using), leave it overnight before working some more on it. Not only will dry strongly, but you will be rested. Alternatively, you could leave it for a couple of hours (maybe something like 3+) to let it glue nicely.

GS

Iuse Clay Shapers to work with GS because a) they are silicon tipped b ) they don't require water and c) they come in different sizes and shapes. Anyhow, mix some GS in equal parts, and put it on the chainfist where the gap is.

Now smooth out the GS so that it blends with the chainsword and the powerfist. If you are using other tools besides caly shapers, remember to use lots of water and maybe even some Vaseline! Let the GS then stand for awhile so that it cures a bit. This ensures that the shape of GS is pretty solid, but you can still smooth it out. Then smooth the top part out.

Do the same on the back part of the chainfist. Apply some GS, smooth out the gaps and let it sit for awhile. Then smooth it all out.

Once the GS is done, and has cured overnight or for 10+ hours, shave off the hook thing on the bottom of the powerfist part. Then add the plastic rod so that the chainfist now has an exhaust pipe!

There you have it! A chaos chainfist!

Loyal Chainfist Based on Infantry Chainfist

You will need a SM or CSM infantry powerfist and a chainsword. Note: I decided not to use the curved chainsword because I felt it looked weird. Then cut the sword at the haft, right above the exhaust, and in the middle of the sword.

Shave the part of the powerfist up until the cable like so, and make sure the shaved part is flat so it will sit flush with the chainsword.

Alternatively, you could shave the entire cable off and replace it with guitar wire.

Now glue the top chainsword bit onto the exhaust part. Once it is glued, glue that bit to the powerfist where the top of the cable used to be. Make sure you also get rid of any mold lines on the exhaust part of the chainsword so that it will sit flush.

TA-DAA! You now have a Loyalist Chainfist. Note: when I get actual terminator powerfists this will be re-done.

In Conclusion

You can make many different cool looking chainfists for cheap, and be proud of it too! Shocked Wink

Whaddyouthink? C&C most welcome!

Cheers!
Brother P.
